Who is awarded the tenders and at what price, and how other Korean generators approach their long-term cover.
KOWEPO is one of five power-generating subsidiaries of state-owned Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). It is seeking coal under two separate long-term tenders.
The first, LT10, covers 2.1 million tonnes of coal with a calorific value of 5,000–5,499 kcal/kg on a net-as-received (NAR) basis. The second, LT11, covers 1.68 million tonnes of lower-energy coal at 4,400–4,999 kcal/kg NAR. Both tenders are for delivery between December 2026 and December 2030.
Colombia has been among the suppliers gaining ground in South Korea this year: it shipped 3.8 million tonnes there in January–September, 21.5% more than a year earlier.
